What is VTRIM?
A minimal, fast Windows app that trims video clips. It copies the stream instead of re-encoding whenever possible, so exports are near-instant and lossless.
Does VTRIM work on my PC?
Yes, it runs on Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit.
Is VTRIM free?
Yes. Trimming is free and unlimited, along with extract-audio and save-frame. An optional one-time $10 Pro license unlocks crop and advanced export tools.
What does "no re-encode" mean?
VTRIM trims by copying the existing video and audio streams, a stream copy, so no quality is lost and the export is almost instant. When a clean cut is not possible it automatically falls back to re-encoding with x264 and AAC.
Why did one of my exports re-encode?
A stream copy can only start on a keyframe. If your IN mark falls between keyframes, a copy would silently begin at the previous keyframe and include footage you trimmed away.
VTRIM checks for this before every export and re-encodes that clip with an accurate seek, so it starts on the exact frame you marked. Nudging the IN mark onto a keyframe gets you the instant copy instead.
Will VTRIM overwrite my original file?
No. By default VTRIM exports a new copy named with a "_vtrim" suffix and leaves your original untouched. Replacing the original is a separate, explicitly confirmed action, and the original goes to the Recycle Bin rather than being deleted outright.
What formats does VTRIM support?
Common video containers including MP4, MOV and MKV, handled through FFmpeg. Stream-copy trimming keeps the original codecs untouched; the re-encode fallback uses x264 for video and AAC for audio.
Do I need to install FFmpeg?
No. On first launch VTRIM offers to download the official FFmpeg build, about 110 MB, into its own user-data folder. If you already have FFmpeg on your system PATH you can point VTRIM at that instead.
Why does Windows warn about an unknown publisher?
VTRIM is not code signed yet, and a certificate from a recognised authority costs hundreds of dollars a year.
Windows SmartScreen shows that warning for any unsigned installer, so click "More info" and then "Run anyway". Download only from vtrimm.com so you know what you are running.
What do I get with Pro?
Pro unlocks crop, which reframes your video to any aspect ratio, plus advanced export tools as they ship. One licence activates on up to 3 devices and includes all future Pro updates.
How do I activate my Pro license?
Your licence key arrives by email right after payment. Open VTRIM, go to Activate Pro, and enter the email you paid with along with the key. If the email has not arrived after a few minutes, check your junk folder before contacting support.
Can I move my license to another PC?
Yes. A Pro licence works on up to 3 devices, and reinstalling on the same machine reclaims its slot. If you reach the limit you can free up a device from the activation screen.
How does license validation work?
Pro licences validate online periodically, roughly monthly, to confirm activation. VTRIM keeps working offline within the grace period between checks.
Does VTRIM collect user data?
No telemetry, no analytics, no tracking. Your videos never leave your computer because all trimming happens locally.
VTRIM makes two kinds of outbound request: Pro activation and validation, which send your email, licence key and a device ID to the activation server; and an update check that asks vtrimm.com whether a newer version exists and sends nothing about you or your videos. The update check can be turned off in Settings.
How do I uninstall VTRIM?
Open Installed apps in Windows Settings and uninstall VTRIM. If you let VTRIM download its own FFmpeg, that copy lives in the app's user-data folder and goes with it.
