Frequently Asked Questions

What is VTRIM?
A minimal, fast Windows app that trims video clips. It copies the stream instead of re-encoding whenever possible, so exports are near-instant and lossless.
Does VTRIM work on my PC?
Yes, it runs on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit).
Is VTRIM free?
Yes. Trimming is free and unlimited, along with extract-audio and save-frame. An optional one-time $10 Pro license unlocks crop and advanced export tools.
What does "no re-encode" mean?
VTRIM trims by copying the existing video and audio streams (a "stream copy"), so no quality is lost and the export is almost instant. When a clean cut isn't possible it automatically falls back to re-encoding (x264 / AAC).
Will VTRIM overwrite my original file?
No. By default VTRIM exports a new copy (named with a "_vtrim" suffix) and leaves your original untouched. Replacing the original is a separate, explicitly confirmed action; when used, the original goes to the Recycle Bin.
Do I need to install FFmpeg?
On first launch VTRIM offers to download the official FFmpeg build (about 110 MB) into its user-data folder, or you can point it at an FFmpeg already on your system PATH.
Why do I see a warning like "Publisher Unknown" or "Windows protected your PC"?
This warning appears because VTRIM is not code-signed with a certificate from a recognized authority. Code-signing certificates are expensive for independent developers, and their absence doesn't mean the software is unsafe. Click "More info" and then "Run anyway" on the Windows SmartScreen prompt. Always download VTRIM directly from this website.
What do I get with Pro?
Pro unlocks crop (reframe to any aspect ratio) and advanced export tools as they ship, activatable on up to 3 devices, with all future Pro updates included.
How do I activate my Pro license?
After purchasing you'll receive a license key by email. Open VTRIM, go to Activate Pro, and enter your email and the key.
Can I move my license to another PC?
Yes. A Pro license works on up to 3 devices, and reinstalling on the same machine reclaims its slot. If you reach the limit, you can free up a device from the activation screen.
Does VTRIM collect user data?
No. VTRIM is privacy-focused and collects no telemetry or personal data. Your videos never leave your computer. Only Pro activation/validation sends your email, license key, and a device ID to the activation server.
What formats does VTRIM support?
VTRIM works with common video containers (MP4, MOV, MKV and more) via FFmpeg. Stream-copy trimming keeps the original codecs; the re-encode fallback uses x264 / AAC.
How does license validation work?
Pro licenses validate online periodically (roughly monthly) to confirm activation. VTRIM keeps working offline within a grace period between checks.
