How it works
Most editors make a cut by rebuilding the whole clip, frame by frame. That is why trimming ten seconds out of a long video can take minutes, and why the file that comes out looks a little softer than the one that went in. Do it a few times over and you can see it.
VTRIM rebuilds nothing. It copies the part you kept, exactly as it was recorded, into a new file. That is all a stream copy is. The picture you get back is the picture you started with, and the export takes about as long as saving a file that size.
There is one catch, and it is where the other fast trimmers quietly get it wrong. Video only allows a clean break in certain spots, and those spots can sit a second or two apart. Put your start point between two of them and most tools hand back a clip that begins early, with the bit you meant to cut still stuck on the front. VTRIM checks your start point before every single export. If it can cut cleanly there, you get the instant copy. If it cannot, it rebuilds that one clip so the video starts exactly where you put the marker. You get the cut you asked for without having to think about which route it took.
Your original is never at risk either. Every export writes a new file beside it, tagged
_vtrim. Replacing the source is a separate step that VTRIM asks you to confirm, and
even then the old file goes to the Recycle Bin rather than disappearing.
